The authorities of the Canton Grisons draw a positive conclusion of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. The safety and security of the populace and guests was guaranteed at all times during the 54th annual meeting as well as during numerous other events thanks in large part to the great efforts of police, army and other partners.

The security environment, top-ranking guests, the Ukraine conference in the run-up to the WEF, two official visits with stops in Berne, at the «Lohn» manor near Berne and in Davos as well as several demonstrations in Switzerland challenged both police and military. The security measures had to be newly set up and activated shortly after the New Year. The cooperation of the various services was smooth despite all the challenges. All measures have proved themselves and security was guaranteed at all times.

According to Peter Peyer, head of the Department of Justice, Safety and Health «We would like to thank all members of the police and military for their outstanding commitment and their additional effort». All cantons of Switzerland, the principality of Liechtenstein as well as some of the larger Swiss cities participated in an intercantonal police operation to maintain security and protect people and property. This year, the army has once again supported the civilian authorities of the Canton Grisons by carrying out the security tasks surrounding the annual meeting of the WEF.

High interest in the WEF annual meeting in Davos

Despite the tense geopolitical situation, among others triggered by the conflicts in the Ukraine and the Middle East, numerous heads of state and government representatives and a large number of personalities from the business and science communities as well as politics traveled to Davos. In total, 111 internationally protected persons requiring security measures attended the annual meeting of the WEF while seven participated in the Ukraine conference.

«Especially in times of economic and political uncertainties, it is vital to set the tone for peaceful dialog» said member of the Cantonal government Marcus Caduff and head of the WEF Committee of the Government for the Canton Grisons. «The annual meeting in Davos, however, is only possible with the support of numerous partners and the understanding of the populace. For this, I would like to thank all parties involved.»

Addressing critical issues should also be possible in the context of the WEF. For this reason, the authorities specifically approved a winter hike from Küblis to Davos and a local demonstration at the Rathausplatz in Davos.
